A community currency for Oakland
OAK is building a community currency in Oakland to keep more of our value local.
- Here in Oakland, we have been held back for generations by extractive economic systems that siphon money from our community to large banks.
- For decades, our community has experimented with alternative economic models like gift economics, land trusts, coops, and local currencies.
- Local currencies in particular have enormous potential to keep money in our local economy, interrupt the cycle of community extraction, and lift up our local businesses.
- Weβre beginning our work with a pilot partnership with the West Oakland Farmers Market, and we need merchants interested in starting early and sharing feedback with us.
If you want to be a part of taking control of our money, schedule a 1-on-1 session to tell us how we can support your local business. Send us an email at hello@oak.community.
